EXPLORE GORE

Nestled between the rolling hills and river valleys of Southland, Gore is a small town with a big heart—and an even bigger reputation among anglers. Self-labelled as the unofficial ‘Brown Trout Capital of the World’, Gore sits right on the banks of the Mataura River, famous for its consistent mayfly hatches and wily, wild trout.
Boasting approximately 12,000 people, Gore is more than just a fishing district. It’s a thriving rural hub with a strong farming backbone, friendly locals, and a relaxed pace that makes you feel right at home. There is an art gallery, several museums, restaurants, and within a short drive, bush walks, golf courses, and a wide array of some of the best farming in New Zealand.

Whether you’re here to chase trout, take in the scenery, or enjoy a true slice of southern hospitality, Gore is the perfect base for your fly fishing adventure.
